Top 100 Movies of the 21st Century on the Torg Stories Podcast

New York Times Top 100 Movies of the 21st Century Podcast

First, a health update on our mom Sue. We’ve had some listeners email or text about that:

  • On Wed July 23 Mom had knee replacement surgery. She’s 84.
  • The doctor asked mom how long her knee has been bothering her. She answered, “Since high school.”
  • The knee was getting worse and worse, and she’s hoping to be able to get in cars easier and go for a little longer walk.
  • Everything went well. I think she’s doing maybe a little better than expected. She didn’t want any pain medication this morning. She is using a walker with help and making progress on her knee flexibility.

The New York Times Top 100 of the 21st Century List:

  • To create the list, NYT said they polled, “more than 500 filmmakers, stars and influential film fans to vote for the 10 best movies (however they chose to define that) released since Jan. 1, 2000.” Anne, there are all kinds of ways that top anything lists can be compiled, what did you think of this one? Click here for the NYT article.

Are you okay with how this list was compiled?

  • Torg thought: there will be problems with how any list is compiled. I like that it was over 500 people and a vote. For me, better than a critic I haven’t heard of. Sure, I would have been interested in Roger Ebert’s Top 100 when he was alive.
  • Think it’s tough to overcome recency bias.
  • Who cares?!!! It’s a fun late July topic!
