Nick Hornby’s book about Prince and Dickens

Dickens and Prince: A Particular Kind of Genius by Nick Hornby

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting to hear pretty much that same voice that told me the story of Hornby’s High Fidelity (the character Rob) teach me about Prince and Dickens. As a 1989 high school graduate, I was a big enough fan of Prince and familiar with his music in the 80s and 90s. As Hornby says, there started to be so much music that it became hard for me to stay involved with. I really enjoyed the parts about the creative process of these two artists along with the Hornby talking about his and then also weaving in how other writers have said they write. It’s an interesting not obvious pairing with Prince and Dickens but worked for me just because Hornby was such big fans of them both. Makes me think there could be a Stephen King and Taylor Swift pairing. Lots of output from both of those two, right?
