Anne, you up for Top Gun Maverick Double Feature next week? We’ll re-watch both films and talk about them as a pair?

Father’s Day Celebration segment:
Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and our dad Martin. Up first, something I’m stealing from Coach Barry and the Watauga Women’s program. Celebrations of our father:
- Bill celebration: My dad always came in for the big talks. I remember one time him giving my buddy Tank some of the advice that he’d also dispensed to me: “Whatever you decide will be fine.” And the scarier implication, whatever you decide might not work out at all. He also once advised me to break a date and ignore a girl, and I ignored his advice instead. Don’t know why this worked but one time after a Little League game, he wouldn’t let me go to a friend’s house to spend the night because of my body language. It’s probably not this simple, but I feel like that night mostly fixed it.
NBA Season Reflection Segment:
You opened the NBA season by purchasing NBA League Pass and set the goal of watching NBA games.
- Did you get your money’s worth?
- What were your viewing habits? Did it change as the season went along?
- Were you drawn to certain teams or players? Make a list.
- Did you enjoy watching the NBA? Would you say you’re hooked?
List the players and/or teams you’d most likely look for or put on the TV if they were on. Who/what captures your interest?
- Nets were the team I was most likely to watch. KD is hanging on as my favorite player. I’m a Steve Nash fan. Kyrie is fascinating. I hoped Ben Simmons would make it.
- Warriors. Steph is a top player to watch. Can Klay get it back? The Warriors off ball movement. Draymond’s passing and playmaking AND what will he do?
- I see I’m curious to see how guys respond when everything is trending down: James Harden, Anthony Davis, Zion
What are your main NBA complaints? And/or, what changes would be good for you, no matter how unrealistic?
- Each game is too long. Ten minutes is so much better. Make review process quicker. Shorten halftime and reduce timeouts and media timeouts.
- Too many games. Play 50. Less load management. Each game more important.
- Widen the court and make three point distance equal all the way around.
List what was fun about watching the NBA.
- The end of close games when my family got into it.
- Watching people and/or teams respond well to adversity. Heat are example #1. The return of Duncan Robinson.
- The intrigue of players moving around. The disintegration of the Nets, KD to the Suns.
- The spectacular plays: Jokic way behind the head over Davis and later LeBron.
- It really became what I did in the evening once the Watauga season was over.
What were the big stories for you? Biggest surprises good or bad?
- The emergence of Jokic, seeing him play so much.
- The Heat run to the finals.
- The Nets break up and KD to the Suns.
- The Lakers did get it turned around.
Here are the coaching changes so far. What jumps out at you?
- Casey out with Pistons. Suns Monty Williams in.
- Williams out with Suns Frank Vogel, title with Lakers, in.
- Silas out with Rockets Udoka (former Celtics) in.
- Budenholzer out with Bucks Adrian Griffin former Raptors assistant, in.
- Rivers out with Sixers and Nurse in.
- Darko Rajakovic replaces Nurse with Raptors.
If I was giving you $100 to put on the Nuggets for next year’s title or the field, which are you taking?
- the field! somebody will be really good we don’t know it yet, Suns, Bucks, Kings, Celtics, Sixers, Warriors, Lakers
What questions do you have for next season. For example, where will Kyrie Irving end up? List some more–maybe unanswerable–questions that interest you.
- Here comes Wemby!
- Can new coach make a big difference? Udoka with Rockets. How do Suns, Bucks and Sixers look? Do they take a step back?
- Are the Kings good now?
- What’s up with Ja?
- Mavs? Warriors?
Make 3 NBA predictions for the off season or next year:
- Suns win the title.
- Spurs top six, or at least I’m rooting for that! Pop is relevant again!
- Kyrie stays with Mavs.
