At my house, we call Boothe Memorial “The Rooster Park,” because it used to have chickens. The birds are gone but the name has stayed. This park is very close to the Merritt Parkway, off of highway 110. There are two playgrounds here. One of them is very new, and since there are no houses close, during the day it isn’t very busy. If you’re a kid at the rooster park, someone has brought you. In the pic, I’m riding the “kunk” and not the “skunk” because that’s what both my daughters call it.
There’s a lot to do at the main play area. There’s a little slide behind these big ones. Notice the two climbing walls and theswings. There’s also a big field behind, a car to pretend to drive, and some balancing stools. A nice soft surface to play, just laid down this year.
The Phantom Tollbooth.
Some of the interesting buildings to see at the park.
There’s a ton to see and do here. If you climb the hill you’ll see an old toll booth from the Merritt Parkway. It reminds me of a story I used to teach in sixth grade: The Phantom Toll Booth. There’s a church, a windmill, an outhouse, a birdhouse, and several other structures I don’t think I could explain. If you’re in the Stratford area with kids needing to blow off some steam, you ought to check out Boothe Memorial Park.
